In a professional environment, a woman in the workplace will invest time and attention into her dress and grooming to draw attention up to her face for improved communication. This can be done through wearing a collared shirt, a blazer, or face framing accessories.
Since attention goes to contrast, when a woman wears a for example gray dress with red shoes, where will the attention go? Straight to her feet. Particularly when giving a presentation or a speech, it is best to wear neutral shoes repeating the color of the suit or dress so that attention stays on the speaker’s face, where it belongs.
I love red and have several pairs of red shoes myself! These fabulous attention-getting red shoes are easiest worn for casual and social situations where you can let your hair down, have fun, and show your personal style. Red heels with a red dress or suit in the office is a day of celebration in personal style.
Several years ago, I was attending a professional awards ceremony in which many women were in attendance to receive special awards. As their names were called, woman after woman came to the stage to receive her award wearing an ornate bejeweled gown. Last and best, one woman stepped up to receive her award and completely differentiated herself from everyone else by wearing a stunning ivory jacket, black skirt, and unforgettable red slingback heels. She stole the show. Years later, her outfit is a great illustration in my mind of how red shoes can truly showcase one’s personal style in a classy and elegant way.

Judith – good article. I love red shoes too. I say judiciously use them in the appropriate work setting. And I have a pair of burgundy patent leather pumps that almost are conservative workable!
