This morning on The Today Show, David Osmond, a second generation Osmond, appeared to raise awareness for multiple sclerosis, which he copes with. I admire his positivity and philanthropic efforts. He’s a handsome guy, well spoken, and his sporty outfit should have allowed his message to come through loud and clear.
Because attention always goes to contrast, it was difficult to pay attention to his important message because his extremely spiky hair stole the show! With most people unaware of the effect, the spikes in Osmond’s hair lead attention up and away from his face, reducing effective communication.
Spiky hair is an evolving trend intended to characterize Gen X and Y rebellion and will inevitably distract from one’s message and purpose. For individuals who want to have fun with the spiky hair look, it’s smart to think about where you’re going to wear it and why.
